LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese is doubling down after calling First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s awkward White House invitation to the second place Iowa team a joke. Now, Reese says she will not accept Biden’s apology.

“I don’t accept it. I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t accept the apology,” said Reese on a recent episode of the I Am Athlete podcast. “I said what I said and you can’t go back on certain things you say.”

Instead of going to the White House, as is tradition for the championship winners, Reese comedically suggested that her and her teammates “go to the Obama’s” instead.

“I mean, like, you felt like they should have came because of sportsmanship, right?” Reese said regarding Biden’s initial invitation to Ohio, which was later awkwardly withdrawn a day later. “They can have that spotlight, we’ll go to the Obama’s. Imma see Michelle. Imma see Barack.”

Reese also mentioned that Dr. Biden was supposed to come visit the LSU locker room prior to the game, but instead the team said no because President Biden had in fact “put somebody else to win the national championship” on his bracket, and they saw that as a bit insulting.

“He didn’t even put us on his bracket,” Reese remarked.

This whole awkward situation began Sunday night when the LSU women’s Tigers defeated Iowa, earning them their program’s first national title. Dr. Biden, who was attending the game, said after LSU clinched the win that she thought it would be a good idea to not only invite the championship winners to the White House, as is tradition, but she also wanted to invite the team from Iowa.

“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House; we always do. So we hope LSU will come,” Biden said during a speaking engagement on Monday. “But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come too, because they played such a good game.”

Biden was later mocked by Reese on Twitter, who called Biden’s comments “a joke,” and then later called out by sports commentator Shannon Sharpe.
