Police confirmed to MMA Fighting that officers arrived at the 5800 block of SW 118 Avenue just before 3 p.m. local time in reference to a person who had been shot. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was also on the scene, tending to a male victim.

“According to the victim, he was involved in an argument that escalated when the subject produced a firearm and shot him,” Detective Chris Thomas said in an initial statement to MMA Fighting. “The adult male victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.“

Immediately, it was made clear that the recently retired UFC star was not involved in the violent incident.

“All occupants of the residence exited the home where units took the subject into custody without incident. The relationship between all parties on the scene has not been confirmed, however, all parties know each other. The listed owner of the residence is Jorge Masvidal Jr. He was not present during the incident and did not have any involvement.”

However, it didn’t end there for Masvidal or his family. Particularly his father and closest confidante, Jorge Sr.

The elder Masvidal has been charged with second-degree attempted manslaughter. A search warrant of the home turned up a .38 caliber revolver. The victim, Luis Leoncini, told Miami-Dade police that the 67-year-old suspect shot him in both arms after a fight inside the kitchen of the home.

“We’re grateful that no one else was shot during this incident. It could have easily been worse,” said Detective Thomas.
