While British boxer Tommy Fury might not be the most well-known pugilist in the United States, he certainly has a fan in UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan.

Last week it was announced that Tommy Fury, younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, would be fighting in his home country against YouTuber KSI, which will stream live through DAZN PPV.

KSI is one of the biggest names in the “influencer boxing” world, which pits online content creators and other internet personalities against each other in the ring through his Misfits boxing promotion.

“KSI is fighting Tommy Fury?” Rogan asked his guest Brendan Schaub, who brought up the upcoming fight on this weeks’ episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. “He’s got skills but Tommy Fury is on another level.”

This isn’t the first time Rogan has praised the 24-year-old former reality TV star and professional practitioner of the Sweet Science. Earlier in the year leading up to Fury’s face-off against rival Jake Paul, Rogan defended Fury’s skill level against Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy, who asserted that Fury was simply an average boxer.

Back in February of this year, Paul and Fury finally faced off in Saudi Arabia. This was a highly anticipated match-up, especially since Fury had been taking shots at Paul online and in interviews, saying he was not a “real boxer.” The Englishman didn’t help his cause though, since he backed out of not one, but two planned fights against Paul.

Things eventually went Fury’s way, and he went on to finally defeat “The Problem Child” by split decision. Though not the knockout he had promised during the promotion of the fight, a win is a win.

Months after the dust settled in Saudi Arabia, Fury made a surprise appearance at KSI’s fight against Joe Fournier, jumping into the ring after the fight and accepting KSI’s challenge.

“I came back to boxing to show the world the crazy levels I’m at,” KSI said after his victory against Fournier (which was later overturned and labeled ‘no contest’ due to an illegal elbow strike). “I’ve shown through obliterating all my past opponents that I am the best in this scene. KO after KO has now led me to the toughest fight in the influencer boxing scene.

“I’m fighting Tommy Fury. The man that defeated the once undefeated Jake Paul is now my opponent and I can’t wait to silence all the doubters that believe I have no chance,” he continued. “After this fight, you’ll understand that I truly am that guy.”
