Tim Beck, Coastal Carolina’s football coach, can’t go take a photo with the school’s mascot and all of the Chanticleer dance team dancers on a beach without causing some people to immediately think something is up.

All the hoopla regarding Beck’s fun beach photo-op started earlier in the week when he took an innocent photo with members of the Chanticleer dance team as well as the school’s mascot and posted it to the team’s official X account.

You know what people wear at the beach? Swimwear. So you know what the dance team- consisting of young, beautiful athletic women wore to the beach? Swimwear.

Oh, it’s also worth mentioning that this beach is in Hawaii, where they’ll be playing their upcoming bowl game against San Jose State. So with all that context, this is actually a pretty normal, innocent situation. However, some killjoys online immediately found a way to make an issue out of nothing.

Something Out of Nothing

I want to start with this— I’m a Liberty University grad, and Conference USA fans know that the Flames and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have a historic rivalry.

As a LU alumni, however, I’m also very familiar with awkward, inappropriate photos getting out into the public thanks to members of the university administration acting like they’re in the final days of the Roman Empire.

On a scale from Jerry Falwell Jr. to Coach Tim Beck, Beck’s “controversial” photo is G-rated. The only way you can sexualize Beck’s beach day photo is if you want it to be sexualized in the first place.

Apologize for What? Having Fun at the Beach?

So the team account posted the photo, a bunch of people freaked out and called it inappropriate, and within hours fearing some PR nightmare, the photo was taken down.

“It was a very spontaneous event,” Beck said according to Yahoo Sports. “There was no intent to try to generate any particular kind of response one way or the other of how that was. So, I mean, that’s kind of my statement really on it.”

One of the dancer’s mother’s reached out to OutKick.com in order to defend Coach Beck and the girls for their innocent group photo.

“My daughter is on the Coastal Carolina Dance Team – Chanticleer Girls, and I wanted to thank you for not taking this situation and turning it into something more than it is,” the mother, whose name was withheld, said to OutKick’s David Hookstead.

“We (dance moms) are appalled at the comments we are seeing about Coach Beck and the girls. It’s obvious they want to slander him and they’re using the girls to support their claim.”

The mother further elaborated that the outing at the beach was planned by the girls, which explains why they were all in coordinated teal bikinis in the first place.

So let me ask you, dear reader; was this thing a whole lot of nothing or am I simply ignoring something-something? Let us know in the comments below and across social media.
