UFC star Colby Covington says his unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards was because the judges hate his political ideology

At UFC 296, Colby Covington lost his match for Leon Edwards’ UFC world welterweight championship when he fell by unanimous decision. Now Covington says he thinks the decision might have been biased, due to his outspoken support for former U.S. president Donald Trump.

Covington has grown close to Trump over the past several years, and he is often seen wearing one of the former president’s signature ‘Make America Great Again’ hats. It’s made him a lightning rod of controversy at times.

However, most observers and many of his fellow fighters who saw the fight say that Covington was beaten by Edwards soundly. It’s believed the only round that Colby managed to salvage was the fifth (and final) one. And even that one was close enough that it could have been called in either man’s favor.

That makes no difference to Colby Covington, who said that Trump’s detractors want to see him fall. He also alleges that the judges showed favoritism toward his opponent due to their liberal bias.

“The judges have never favored me. They hate me because I support Donald Trump. Everybody hates him in this building,” Colby Covington said after the fight.

Trump attended the event to support Covington in his efforts. At the same time, the UFC star continues to back Trump politically. Even if – in his mind – It might be costing him some victories?

“I want to keep praising Trump. You can put him off, but you can’t deny us,” Covington added. “He will make America great again. He will reduce inflation and secure our borders. Donald Trump is the only one who can do it. Vote for him in 2024.”
