After blowing their collective gaskets over an offensive offside that cost them last week’s game, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will pay a price

The Kansas City Chiefs are still feeling the collateral damage of Kadarius Toney’s controversial offside play against the Bills in week 14. The call negated what would have been a classic, ‘highlight-reel’ touchdown and ended up sealing KC’s demise at the hands of Buffalo, 20-17.

At the time? Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid made it CLEAR that they hated the officials’ decision. They were vocal both on the field and after the game. The duo both vehemently stressed that it was a ‘ticky-tack penalty’ that shouldn’t have been flagged at such a crucial moment in the contest.

Now? They are going to pay for their protests.

Reid has received a $100,000 fine for publicly criticizing the officials, while Mahomes was slapped with a $50,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct due to abusive, threatening, or insulting language to officials, plus publicly criticizing the referees, per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

For his part, Patrick Mahomes has already expressed regret with how he reacted to the call. He has called himself out regarding his own behavior and stressed that he wants to conduct himself better going forward.

“Obviously, you don’t ever want to react that way,” Patrick Mahomes said in an interview later on 610 Sports in Kansas City. “I care, man. I love this game, I love my teammates. I want to go out there and put everything on the line to win.

“But obviously… can’t do that, can’t be that way toward officials or really anybody in life, so I probably regret acting like that. But, more than anything, I regretted how I acted toward Josh after the game, because he had nothing to do with it.”
