After exploding over an offsides call that inevitably cost the Chiefs Sunday’s game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is trying to play devil’s advocate now

Two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes has long been considered one of the nicest guys in the game, frequently chatting it up with fans and media. However, when his Chiefs came up short against the Buffalo Bills thanks to a controversial offensive offsides call, the QB lost his mind.

Mahomes, 28, and his team have had an up-and-down year thus far – battling through personnel changes, injuries, and the public hating on them over Taylor Swift. Despite being the defending world champions, they don’t look much like world-beaters right now.

Needing a statement win against the Bills, Kansas City looked poised to put the game away when Patrick Mahomes had them driving down the field in the fourth quarter. Just as it appeared like Travis Kelce made an unbelievable play (one that’s almost impossible to describe), Kedarius Toney SHOULD have scored the go-ahead touchdown. Instead, the receiver was called for lining up offsides, negating the score.

That was enough for both Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid to lose it, with the quarterback screaming obscenities that didn’t take a lip-reader to decipher.

Since his meltdown, however, the normally reserved Patrick Mahomes has shown that he regrets getting caught up in the moment. He says he knows it’s not what his fans expect from him. And he acquiesced that the officials probably got the call right.

“I mean I saw the picture; he probably is barely offsides,” Mahomes admitted after the game. “But for him [the official] to take the game into his hands over a call like that doesn’t affect the play at all – at all. [It] didn’t affect anything.”

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (8-5) will try and regroup when they travel to New England to face the Patriots (3-10) in a match-up that will be intriguing for several reasons. Hopefully? Everyone lines up in the right place this time.
