Jets QB Zach Wilson has a big supporter in his Mom, who has raised some eyebrows (and drawn some chuckles) for defending the former first-round pick on social media

Zach Wilson’s mother Lisa went on social media to come to her son’s defense, as she posted a video explaining what’s going on with the young quarterback’s concussion. The Jets first-round pick in 2021, Wilson left Sunday’s 30-0 loss against the Miami Dolphins for precautionary reasons following a head injury.

Lisa Wilson has gotten a lot more press than most NFL Moms, due to her good looks and outgoing personality. She came into the public conscience when Zach was drafted. After being featured on television, she became the target of many cougar hunters in the greater New York area.

Mama Wilson also made news indirectly, as Zach Wilson’s ex-girlfriend alleged that the passing prospect once slept with one of his mother’s best friends. It was an out-of-character story regarding the youngster, who was once baptized as a Mormon and played his college ball at BYU.

Wilson never verified any of the rumors. However, his perceived precociousness did earn him plenty of street cred from football fans and fellow pro players.

Now, Zach’s mom is answering questions regarding his ability to play following his concussion issues. In particular, she wanted to address some fans’ collective theory that her son had ‘quit on the team.’

According to Lisa Wilson, his injury was not initially reported as a concussion because the quarterback wasn’t being 100% honest with team doctors. Quite simply, he lied a little bit about how bad things were – because he wanted to keep playing.

“Yesterday was a little bit rough,” Lisa Wilson stated on Instagram. “Zach took some really, really big hits and he fought through it and really tried to just stay out on the field. He didn’t want to go out, he didn’t want to stop playing — so he didn’t tell the sideline, the coaches, the trainers how he was really feeling and tried to just fight through it and be out there for his guys.”

“Finally, after one more blow to the head, he really started having problems with blurred vision and his depth perception,” she continued. “He really started worrying that he was actually going to hurt his team if he stayed out there because his vision was not right and how you can’t play like that.”

Wilson appears to be recovering okay from the blows as he continues to try and fill the void left by the absence of star QB Aaron Rodgers. The Jets have announced that he will start on Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders (4-10) if he passes through the concussion protocol this week.
