Indy airport installs basketball court ahead of NBA All-Star Game via WTHR YouTube, screenshot

Apparently someone has decided to mix the fun of commercial air travel with basketball, or if you’re like me, the horror of flying Southwest’s boarding group C and being reminded of be smacked in the face with a basketball during gym class in high school.

Over in Indiana, the Indianapolis International Airport has installed a hardwood basketball court in honor of the Indiana Pacers hosting the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.

Now I can imagine that some of you are cracking jokes about playing a game of knockout before going to your gate, or challenging your friends who lose a quick pick-up match to intentionally try and get a pat down from the TSA.

You’d think that putting a basketball court in an airport would be a great way to get the fans, y’know, the regular Joes who pay the tickets and buy the merch and all that jazz to keep these professional athletes looking pretty, eating well and living large, involved and excited, but no.

This basketball court isn’t for the plebs, its apparently just for show, and to also avoid lawsuits because some Karen’s kid will totally scrape their knee and then try and sue the airport.

The Senior Public Affairs Consultant for the whole gimmick, Stephanie McFarland, stated that “Soon, All-Star will convene in the greatest hosting city and the greatest basketball state in the nation.

“It wasn’t just our love for the game that landed All-Star Weekend here; it was our collaborative community mindset and long resume of hosting hundreds of national and international sporting events, among so many other significant conventions and events.”

I think its stupid not to get some user-generated content out of the whole thing, but whatever.
