WNBA: Indiana Fever - Caitlin Clark introduction
Indianapolis Star-USA TODAY NETW

Indiana Fever rookie No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark is preparing for her first season in the WNBA after a record-breaking college career at Iowa.

Clark is just a few weeks away from making her debut after being the first pick in the annual event last week. She’s also the toast of the women’s sports world after a dominating run with the Hawkeyes saw the guard finish with the most points in the history of college basketball.

Could this now lead to her joining Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris? It’s a real possibility according to Team USA Committee chair Jennifer Rizzotti.

“You always want to introduce new players into the pool whether it’s for now or the future. We stick to our principles of talent, obviously, positional fit, loyalty and experience. It’s got to be a combination of an entire body of work. It’s still not going to be fair to some people.”

Clark’s popularity is by now well known. Her former Iowa team losing to South Carolina in the national championship game drew better television ratings than the men’s version.

Meanwhile, Clark has signed an eight-figure with Nike that’s said to be worth as much as $28 million. Given her lackluster WNBA contract, that’s no small thing.

Whether Clark makes the Team USA roster likely won’t be decided until a few weeks into the 2024 WNBA season this summer.

The likes of other WNBA stars will likely be making their way to Paris.
