Keith Olbermann is a perpetually miserable shell of a human being. We know this won’t come as much of a surprise revelation to most, but the former ESPN personality reminded everybody on Tuesday that he is simply a vile human being with no value to polite society.
In a move that quickly ignited online outrage, the former broadcaster turned old man yelling at clouds referred to legendary college football coach Lou Holtz as a “scumbag” shortly after Holtz’s death.
Holtz, who passed away at the age of 89 on Wednesday, was celebrated for his storied career, including leading Notre Dame to a national championship in 1988. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump in December 2020, shortly after the election.
And therein lies the problem for Keith. Olbermann responded to an X post praying for the “legend” to rest in peace, as only an unemployable cretin like himself could.
“Legendary scumbag, yes,” he wrote.

Keith Olbermann Faces Fierce Backlash After Calling Legendary Coach Lou Holtz a ‘Scumbag’ in Post-Death Insult
Olbermann’s post drew immediate and widespread condemnation from users on the platform, with many accusing the wretched loser of lacking decency and timing his insult poorly while normal people were offering tributes to Holtz.
Responses ranged from the well-thought-out to the more concise and targeted retorts. Both were equally effective and accurate.
“Lou Holtz will be remembered as a man of deep Catholic faith, who improved the lives of countless young men, turning around college football programs, and winning a national championship, while being married to his wife for nearly 60 years and leaving behind a beautiful family,” political commentator Greg Price observed. “You will be remembered as a sad, miserable little man who contributed absolutely nothing of value to this world.”
No lies detected.
New York radio host Vito Ciccarelli simply fired back, “You’re such a douchebag.”
Also, no lies detected.
“I’m almost impressed at your ability to find a new low almost daily. You’ll just one-up yourself straight to hell. Couldn’t happen to a better guy,” another X user added.

The backlash fits into a broader pattern of provocative, politically charged statements on social media by Olbermann, which have previously targeted figures like the U.S. men’s hockey team and swimmers Kaitlynn Wheeler and Riley Gaines.
Gaines took Olbermann’s insults, wrapped them in a fire blanket, and stomped them out pretty readily.
“He still lives with his mom in her basement,” Gaines said in an interview with Joe Rogan. “I had to ask my dad, ‘Who is this guy?’ I don’t even know who he is.”
Nobody does anymore.
Holtz will be remembered fondly for decades to come, while Keith, still alive, has already been forgotten.
