How is it vaguely possible that Sherrone Moore took a Michigan program that was embarrassed over their sign-stealing scandal and the fact that Jim Harbaugh high-tailed it out of Ann Arbor, leaving them to pick up the pieces, and made it even more embarrassing?

Moore has had one of the most unfortunate 24 hours for a head football coach in recent memory. He kicked off his Wednesday by being fired from the university for an “inappropriate relationship” with a staffer. He ended the day sitting in jail.

The university issued a statement in the afternoon stating they had found “credible evidence” that the married coach, who has three daughters, had gotten a little too close to a member of the staff.

“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” the statement reads.

Online speculation ramped up after a staffer locked her Instagram account on social media.

It gets worse for Sherrone Moore

As if getting fired for committing adultery with a staffer wasn’t bad enough, it only took hours for the trouble in Sherrone Moore’s life to escalate exponentially.

While details are scant, police in Saline, Michigan, arrested him and now “charges are on the table,” according to TMZ.

While one does not want to speculate what took place, a public firing for Moore over infidelity and an arrest at somebody’s home within hours for what might turn out to be an assault is not a good look.

“Pittsfield police said they responded to a home as part of an assault investigation. Police said a suspect was taken into custody and that the incident does not appear to be random in nature,” Fox News Digital reports.

Moore is reportedly in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the county prosecutor.

Is it possible that Sherrone confronted somebody after his firing? Did somebody confront him?

What’s next for Michigan?

Look, Sherrone Moore was handed the keys to an already crumbling kingdom with the cheating scandal. The problem is, he was part of it. He has nobody to blame but himself.

Harbaugh was given a 10-year show-cause order, and Moore was hit with a two-year show-cause with three total game suspensions (two in 2025 and one in 2026). He won’t have to worry about the latter now.

The Michigan football program was placed on four years of probation, hit with fines exceeding $20 million, and given a 14-week ban on recruiting communications.

Pointedly, the phrase most people know is “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” not “when life gives you lemons, beat the holy hell out of the lemons and throw them in the garbage disposal.”

In the meantime, Biff Poggi has been named interim coach as Michigan prepares to play Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31st.
