The Happy Gilmore sequel has been officially confirmed by Netflix. That’s the good news.
The big news is that Adam Sandler, who played the titular character, and Christopher McDonald, who played nemesis Shooter McGavin, will both return from one of the all-time sports comedy movies.
McDonald first hinted at the possibility of a sequel back in March when he mentioned seeing a draft of the script.
“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this.’” McDonald added, “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’
“I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”
Shortly thereafter, Sandler himself admitted the Happy Gilmore sequel was being developed.
Netflix: Here Comes The Happy Gilmore Sequel
Netflix posted a message to social media Wednesday that had fans of the golf comedy positively foaming at the mouth.
“Happy Gilmore is back!” they wrote. “Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix.”
The PGA Tour X account responded by posting a video of Sandler launching a drive using the signature Happy slapshot-style swing.
While details about the plot and premiere date of the sequel have not been revealed, it’s clear that the project is in the works.
Given the nearly 30-year gap since the original, it will be interesting to see how the story and characters have evolved.

Why Are Fans Excited?
The original Happy Gilmore, released in 1996, was a comedy about a failed hockey player who discovers his natural talent for golf and joins the pro tour to save his grandmother’s house.
But in the nearly three decades since it premiered, it has enjoyed consistent airplay as a classic film with one-liners and quotes that have endured the test of time.
Everybody remembers Sandler telling Bob Barker: “The price is wrong, b—-.”
Who amongst us hasn’t approached a putt and muttered to ourselves, “Just tap it in. Just tap it in. Give it a little tappy. Tap Tap Taparoo.”
Leave that putt short? “Why don’t you just go HOME? That’s your HOME! Are you too good for your HOME?”
And while not quite as quotable in everyday life, who can forget this iconic exchange between Shooter and Happy?
“I eat pieces of s— like you for breakfast!”

Happy Gilmore
The film also starred the aforementioned Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty, each of whom has sadly passed away. Barker played himself at a charity event in the film while Weathers was Gilmore’s coach, Chubbs Peterson. Flaherty was the crazed fan who would yell “Jacka–!” in an attempt to rattle Happy.
Rumor has it each man will be paid tribute to with Sandler also trying to get current Price is Right host Drew Carey into the mix.
Oh man, I can hardly wait. Happy Gilmore the sequel will surely rise up as one of the best follow-up efforts of all time. Rocky II, The Empire Strikes Back, The Godfather II.
Now, Happy Gilmore 2!
