New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter is irked about the one vote that prevented him from being a unanimous Hall of Fame selection.
Not so much because somebody dared to vote against him. But because he has to keep answering questions about how he feels about that one person.
He answered them again during an appearance on Jimmy Traina’s “Sports Illustrated Media Podcast.”
Jeter believes that, just as players are held accountable for their play on the field, so should journalists gifted with the privilege of deciding who gets into the Hall of Fame be held accountable for their vote.
“Members of the media always want us to be accountable as players,” Jeter said. “Good game, bad game, you have to stand in front of your locker, and you have to address the media. I did it every single day. You may not have liked what I said … but I was accountable, and I was there.”

Derek Jeter Hall Of Fame Snub
Derek Jeter was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020, his first year of eligibility.
He received 396 out of a possible 397 votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, giving him a vote share of 99.7 percent.
One person out of 397 saw his career body of work and decided he didn’t belong in the Hall of Fame.
“I don’t care that someone didn’t vote for me. I really don’t, but I do think what becomes annoying is I have to constantly answer the question,” Jeter said. “And I don’t think I should be the one answering the question.”
“Whoever it is should answer the question. I don’t have a problem with it, but I get tired of being asked that question.”

Who Is The One Person?
The identity of the one person who did not vote for Derek Jeter for the Hall of Fame in 2020 has never been publicly revealed.
The Yankee shortstop took a jab at that person in his actual speech during his induction ceremony.
“Thank you to all the baseball writers … all but one of you,” he said.
Mariano Rivera, Jeter’s teammate for much of their storied Yankee careers, is the only player ever to be elected unanimously to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
