Acclaimed Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner, known for classics like When Harry Met Sally and Stand By Me, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, where Rob had been a passionate lifelong fan since his teenage years, issued a statement expressing sorrow over the couple’s passing.
“The Dodgers express our deep sorrow and share our condolences over the passing of longtime fan Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele,” the team wrote on X.
Reiner was a season-ticket holder for approximately 60 years, marking a lifelong commitment to the team that began shortly after he moved to Los Angeles.
Rob Reiner’s murder shocks the world
A family member discovered the bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife on Sunday and alerted authorities, prompting a homicide investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Their son, Nick Reiner, who had previously spoken publicly about struggles with drug addiction, has since been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.
Rob and Michele, aged 78 and 68 respectively, were found deceased with injuries consistent with stab wounds. It was later reported that they had their throats slit in the midst of a heated argument.
Nick was swiftly identified as a person of interest by Reiner’s daughter, Romy, who reportedly found her parents’ bodies. Romy, according to TMZ, told investigators that a family member “should be a suspect” because they’re “dangerous.”
Nick has prominently and publicly discussed his issues with drug use and homelessness. Double murder marks a significant escalation in his troubled life.

Baseball stories
Rob Reiner, in an interview with People magazine in 2023, explained that his love of baseball began with his father, Carl. And he, in turn, passed that love down to his son, Jake.
“Ready for a great story? My dad took me to my first game. It’s 1951 at Yankee Stadium, and it’s a doubleheader. The Yankees were playing the Washington Senators. It was Mickey Mantle’s first year in the Majors and Joe DiMaggio’s last,” he told the outlet.
Reiner also attended Game 1 of the 1988 World Series with his wife, where he, of course, witnessed Kirk Gibson’s famous walk-off home run.
“I’ll never forget it,” Reiner said. “It was the first time we were ever … together, and Kirk Gibson, I hate to say it, was the aphrodisiac.”
The couple would exchange wedding vows the following year.
The last known public appearance of Nick Reiner and his father, Rob, together was in September 2025 at the Los Angeles premiere of This Is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
The original This Is Spinal Tap, a mockumentary about an English heavy-metal band, was Reiner’s directorial debut and became a cult classic.
Reiner initially rose to fame as an actor, most notably portraying Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family. He would transition to directing, producing a string of all-time great films such as The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men.
