Five years after the infamous noose incident rocked NASCAR, Bubba Wallace is opening up about the ordeal that thrust him into an unwanted spotlight.
In a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club” on Power 105.1, the NASCAR driver revisited the 2020 Talladega Superspeedway controversy.
Wallace, a polarizing figure who heavily weighed in on the political and racial landscape of the country back then by promoting a “noose” hoax in 2020, says he has since “moved on” from the incident.
The driver of the No. 23 Toyota Camry XSE said the events leading up to what turned out to be a false news story were a huge “coincidence.”
“One in a million, katrillion coincidences that I had that garage stall,” Wallace said during the interview. “It’s wild. You should see my Twitter mentions. ‘Bubba finished third. Well, was there a noose?’ It’s wild that it’s still going.”
“I think we’re all human enough… I’m not treated differently. Everybody’s been in support and moved on.”
Bubba Wallace Has Moved On
It’s great that he’s moved on from the “noose” incident, but Bubba Wallace and NASCAR did damage to their fans by spreading that story and making ridiculous statements of unity before looking into the facts.
While Wallace didn’t report the alleged hate crime himself, he certainly played up reports that he had been the victim of said hate crime.
The FBI investigated the incident and determined it was actually a garage door pulldown that had been there for over a year and that there was, in fact, no hate crime.
NASCAR, though, couldn’t help but promote the allegations, wherever they came from, as the country was still reeling from the George Floyd incident.
Wallace amped it up with the Black Lives Matter t-shirts, and the controversial driver forced NASCAR’s hand in the banning of Confederate flags at events.
“I can honestly say the sport has been way better without it,” Wallace added.

The Other Garage Incident
Bubba Wallace recently posted a photo of his cluttered garage featuring a Volkswagen Beetle and workout equipment, prompting fans to roast him mercilessly online for the chaotic setup.
The image was shared just five months after the birth of his son Becks.
Wallace, who signed an extension with Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing this past September, decided to show off his workout area and boast about getting to work on the Peloton.

Wallace has been all-in on the mental health aspect of his racing career. He recently shared an optimistic mental health update, stating he feels “in a good spot” after a refreshing offseason with his family, including wife Amanda and Becks.
He emphasized the importance of his support system and a stable team environment at 23XI Racing, which have helped him maintain a positive outlook despite past challenges.
