Bryce James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, may be experiencing a bit of middle child syndrome.

The Los Angeles Lakers star has stated that he will not prolong his career solely for the opportunity to play alongside his younger son. It could be argued that he did so with the full expectation of playing with Bronny, who had little to no business leaving college to enter the NBA draft last year.

It was a move almost certainly forced by LeBron on both Bronny and LA’s ends.

Bryce, however, will seemingly get no special consideration from his pops.

“I’m not sitting here… no, I’m not waiting on Bryce,” LeBron said, laughing. “I don’t know what his timeline is. He’s his own young man now. He’s down in Tucson. We’ll see what happens this year, next year, you know, but he has his own timeline. I got my timeline, and I don’t know if they quite match up.”

LeBron won’t wait for Bryce James

If Bronny is the example, then Bryce would only have to play one brief season in college, wouldn’t even have to play well, and could be spending time on the court with LeBron next season.

Perhaps LeBron’s comments are an indication that he plans to retire after this upcoming season. Or, it’s a foreshadowing that he won’t be in Los Angeles next season.

ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, discussing a potential timeline for the retirement of one of the league’s greatest players, postulated that LeBron might try to hang on so he can share the court with his other son.

“My sense is next season could potentially be his last season in the NBA,” Charania said. “Could he play another season after that to 2026 or 2027? Potentially.”

“Maybe Bryce James keeps him around an extra year or two.”

Imagine that, two James kids riding the pine while Dad and his Make-a-Wish experiment continue to destroy a once-proud franchise in the Lakers. With LeBron’s latest comments, fortunately, we won’t have to watch that debacle.

Not a cool idea anymore

LeBron James has broached the topic of adding Bryce to his selfish fantasy extravaganza himself, responding to a suggestion from former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Tristan Thompson.

“Bryce is a senior. I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see. That would be pretty cool,” he said. “It’s all about my mind and then seeing how my body reacts over these next couple of years.”

LeBron’s body has held up remarkably well considering his age. And his production remains one of the top in the league. Guess the idea of playing alongside Bryce ain’t so cool anymore.

The sad part is that Bryce could very well have been a more legitimate player to team up with his Dad. He will almost assuredly best his brother’s college career at USC. He could probably do so with his eyes closed, which, incidentally, is how Bronny must have taken shots in college.

Some consider Bryce James to be a better NBA prospect than Bronny. He is a shooting guard who stands 6′ 6″ tall and attended Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, California.

He announced earlier this year that he had committed to playing college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats.
