Irony remains undefeated. Golden State Warriors guard Dennis Schroder was part of a blockbuster trade involving Miami Heat player Jimmy Butler.

Four teams were ultimately involved in the trade with Butler, who had been demanding his way out of Miami for weeks. Now he’s headed to Golden State, and Schroder is going to the Utah Jazz.

Butler repeatedly got himself suspended by his now-former team by walking out of practices and/or missing team flights.

The Warriors rewarded him not just with a trade but a new contract – a new two-year, $121 million extension – according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The addition of Schroder seems like a throwaway, even as he has been a solid contributor to the Warriors. But his name being included in the trade raised eyebrows for a different reason.

Dennis Schroder Gets Traded

Dennis Schroder made a wild claim about the trade deadline while discussing the recent league-shattering trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

This was just days ago.

“It’s like modern slavery,” Schröder told NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract.”

“Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money, and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that,” he added.

“They got to change that a little bit.”

Alexa, show me somebody who has no clue.

Sounds Like Kaepernick

How ill-advised are Dennis Schroder’s comments? He now shares a common cause with another drama queen, Colin Kaepernick.

In a Netflix series in 2021, Kaepernick claimed the NFL draft process is just like modern slavery.

“What they don’t want you to understand is what’s being established is a power dynamic,” Kaepernick said as images of an open market in America’s slavery era played.

“Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod and examine you searching for any defect that might affect your performance,” he added. “No boundary respect. No dignity left intact.”

After all that measuring, of course, comes the NFL minimum salary of $795,000 – or literally 10x the median income in America. You know, just like slavery.

Dennis Schroder is playing in his 12th professional season. He’s now been traded six times, including once just two months ago when the Warriors acquired him from the Brooklyn Nets.

He is currently playing under a $13 million guaranteed contract for this season.
