Steve Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro, slammed former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for saying he entered a “locker room of losers” when he joined Carolina in 2011.

Newton, the number one pick that season due to the Panthers’ 2-14 record, slammed the culture of losing in the locker room.

“My issue is, when I was the first pick, I went into a locker room of losers,” he said. “Guys didn’t know how to win … Not everybody has capabilities to be impact players.”

Newton went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year after turning that 2-14 record into a 6-10 effort. Also new that season was rookie head coach Ron Rivera, a future two-time Coach of the Year.

So, the minor improvement wasn’t exclusively at the hands of Cam.

Steve Smith Is P***ed With Cam Newton

Aside from the new coach in Rivera, Cam Newton walked into a locker room that featured Smith, linebacker Thomas Davis, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time All-Pro, and Greg Olsen, also a three-time Pro Bowler.

Smith, though, publicly responded to Newton’s comments. And he doesn’t seem happy.

“None of us are perfect. Yes, we were 2-14 before you blessed us [with your] presence,” Smith wrote on X. “The way you have talked about [The Panthers] lately, I’m very disappointed.”

Smith and Newton went on to combine for 3,313 yards and 15 touchdowns during their three seasons together. One of Smith’s and Newton’s Pro Bowl appearances was during that 2011 season.

Now, Cam is dismissing Smith as a loser.

Not Going To Win Many Fans In Carolina

Cam Newton calling his former teammates “losers” isn’t going to win him many fans back in Carolina. This is odd since he recently complained that nobody in the organization respects him.

Newton ripped the Panthers organization for allegedly trying to erase his legacy with the team. According to him and his son, Carolina has no pictures of him on the stadium walls.

“We went into the Panthers’ facility and . . . you mean to tell me that one of the greatest Panthers to ever play ain’t up nowhere? Nowhere. I’m talkin’ nowhere,” said Newton. “Who brought it to my attention? My son. So as a man, when you have to explain to your son . . . ‘Daddy, where’s your picture?’”

Newton led the Panthers to three NFC South titles, four playoff appearances, and their second-ever Super Bowl appearance during his career.

During that Super Bowl season, Newton became the first black quarterback to win the NFL MVP outright in one of the best seasons ever played by a quarterback.

He could clearly play. But it seems he may not have been able to lead.
