Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey missed practice Wednesday due to jury duty. In one of the more bizarre listings I’ve ever seen on an injury report, Aubrey is listed as “NIR-other (jury duty)”.

The NFL player was selected for the jury in a felony assault case in Tarrant County, Texas.

“Aubrey was not seen during the media portion of practice for the Cowboys on Wednesday and was later confirmed to be out for his civic duty,” the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

While that information is not made public, the newspaper indicates several witnesses saw the Pro Bowl kicker on the jury.

Aubrey Might Miss More Time Due To Jury Duty

The case Aubrey managed to get regarding jury duty is a doozie. It centers around a second-degree strangulation charge against the defendant.

I mean, if you’re going to get the call to serve in the jury box, strangulation has to be right up there. You’re probably not going to be caught napping during that trial.

And he knows it too. The Star-Telegram reports that “the Cowboys tried to pull him away from the jury duty” but Aubrey “insisted on fulfilling his duty.”

The Dallas kicker might also miss a couple more practices on Thursday and Friday, but it is highly unlikely that he’ll miss any game time with courts not being open for business on the weekends.

Dallas’ Lone Bright Spot

Can you blame the Dallas Cowboys for clinging to Aubrey, trying to rip him away from jury duty? And can you blame Aubrey for saying, “I’m out”?

Aubrey has been a lone bright spot in the Dallas Cowboys’ dreadful offense this season. Too bad Dak Prescott or Zeke Elliott couldn’t have gotten the call instead.

Although, if Dak received a jury summons, he’d likely throw it away. Or it would be intercepted.

Aubrey’s field goal percentage has remained high – just below 90% – but it’s his range that is mystifying fans. He is currently 8 of 9 from beyond 50 yards, following an All-Pro 2023 in which he went 10 for 10 from that distance.

Aubrey has the season high at 65 yards, just one yard short of the all-time NFL record of 66 by Justin Tucker.

Now maybe he’ll be booting somebody into, or out of jail.
