Question: Would you have a difficult time making $100 million last? Even with taxes being taken out? Most of us could get half a million, and it would be life-changing.
Not Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham, a Super Bowl-winning wide receiver who has raked in over $101 million across his NFL career, is venting about the harsh realities of stretching that fortune. No, I’m not kidding.
Beckham, who played for the Miami Dolphins last season and started this season with a suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, appeared on “The Pivot” back in October and sang the blues about his money.
His comments reveal a man shockingly out of touch with reality. A kick in the a** to the working man who pays for tickets to watch him show off his one skill in life – catching a ball.
Odell Beckham’s shocking comments
The fascinating part about these comments is that Odell Beckham tries to make his argument using math.
“I’ve always explained this to people, bro, you give somebody a five-year, $100 million contract – what is it really?” he said. “It’s five years for 60 (million). You’re getting taxed.”
Bro, everyone is getting taxed, especially in New York, where you received your largest contract with the Giants. The people in that stadium had to pay taxes as well. Not everyone has $60 million when they’re done paying the IRS in April.
“Do the math, that’s 12 a year that you have to spend, use, save, invest, flaunt, whatever,” Beckham continued. “I’mma buy a car, I’mma give my momma a house. Everything costs money. So, if you’re spending $4 million a year – that’s really $40 million over five years – eight a year.”
Oh, the struggle!

Struggling to live on $8 million per year
And we’ve now hit peak moron. Odell Beckham is suggesting that you have to ignore about $4 million per year over 5 years, for a total of $20 million, because you spent it on things like cars and homes. No man, you’re spending it on luxuries and homes bigger than 99% of the homes in America. You don’t get to pretend that doesn’t count. It doesn’t fall into the same category as taxes. Unlike football fans, you don’t have to worry about a car payment. Or rent, or a mortgage.
“Now, you start breaking down the numbers, and it’s like that’s a five-year span of where you’re getting $8 million. Can you make that last forever?” he added.
Um, yeah. Yes. All of us reading this can do that.
“And you always hear the people who ain’t us and ain’t be in the position, like, ‘Oh that would last a lifetime.’ Yeah, this job I sacrificed my whole life for, they are giving me that. I didn’t ask for the certain dollar amount or whatever,” Beckham declared. “But we weren’t taught about no financial literacy … We weren’t taught this skill.”
They could write volumes about what you haven’t been taught, Odell. This is the same guy who took his base salary in Bitcoin.
Beckham is a three-time Pro Bowler and won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.
