A 55-year-old man from Texas was sentenced to over 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to stalking and harassing WNBA star Caitlin Clark.
Michael Lewis was arrested in January at an Indianapolis hotel, charged with felony stalking for sending hundreds of threatening and sexually explicit messages to Clark via social media.
Lewis was located in a hotel in Indianapolis, meaning he was very close to his intended target. He was arrested and charged with a Level 5 felony. He had been facing up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
During his court appearance in Indy, Lewis declared himself “guilty as charged” and asked to remain in jail. He continually interrupted the proceedings.
The man clearly had some serious mental health issues.
Caitlin Clark Stalker Learns His Fate
Why this story isn’t bigger news is beyond me. Why is the WNBA not putting extra security measures in place for its players?
When Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was falsely identified as a victim of “racist” taunts by Indiana Fever fans, the league conducted a weeks-long investigation.
Remember when Reese and her teammates made a big deal over allegedly being the victims of a paparazzi-esque ambush? It was another case of the harassment being overblown.
But here, here we have an actual stalker who made tangible threats against the top player in the league, and it’s kind of slipped under the radar.

Clark Praised for her Bravery
Mr. Lewis’ sentence of 2.5 years includes time served at the Marion County Adult Detention Center since his arrest.
As part of the plea agreement, he is prohibited from contacting Clark, attending Indiana Fever or Pacers games, or using the internet during his sentence.
He was also recommended to receive mental health treatment, with the judge noting his erratic behavior, including claims about the end of the world.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears emphasized that the resolution holds Lewis accountable for the fear and disruption he caused.
“This resolution ensures that the defendant is held accountable for his threatening actions, the fear he instilled, and the disruption he caused,” Mears said, according to WTHR in Indianapolis.
“He will now spend the next two and a half years in the Department of Corrections, and the victim will be able to have peace of mind while focusing on what matters to her.”
Clark admitted that the stalker had her fearing for her safety, while the prosecutor commended her bravery in the face of his threats.
“It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don’t,” Mears said, according to the BBC. “In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence.”
