Authorities say, DJ Hernandez, 37, sent threatening messages, including ones about carrying out a shooting at UConn. Like his brother, he also played football and is a former Huskies quarterback and wide receiver from the mid-200s. However, he never achieved the success of brother Aaron, a successful tight end who won a Super Bowl with the Patriots before conducting some tragically criminal conduct of his own.

Police became aware of the unfolding situation when DJ began posting ominous messages online, promising violence to those that he perceived as his “enemies.” Much like Aaron Hernandez did at the time of his crimes, he displays an almost cold and calculating presence.

Bodycam footage released late last week shows the suspect being apprehended in a nearby neighborhood:

“I’ve died for years now and now its others peoples turn,” read a July 7 message sent to a woman in Hernandez’s life. It followed a message the day before that warned: “UConn’s gonna see how accurate I am too with my targets.”

He’s being held right now, pending an investigation, but it looks as if he will be joining his disgraced sibling behind bars if the allegations are proven true. What led to his outburst is uncertain at this time

Aaron Hernandez was famously convicted in a high-profile murder case, leading to his conviction and eventual 2017 suicide while serving a life sentence. He had originally been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2013 shooting death of former semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. Prior to that, Aaron Hernandez had teamed with Rob Gronkowski to form one of the most devastating tight-end combinations in NFL history for New England. The pair found success alongside quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick.
