Aaron Rodgers during week one against New England | Highlight Heaven

Following his early exit on Monday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers’ 2023 season is officially over. An MRI confirms the Jets’ new quarterback tore his Achilles tendon when he was sacked on the opening drive. This injury leaves Rodgers out for the season, and Zach Wilson as the starter in New York for the rest of the way.

Aaron Rodgers, 39, was injured on his fourth snap in his debut with the New York Jets, needing to be carted from the sideline to the locker room. They feared the four-time NFL MVP tore his Achilles tendon, and that’s what the MRI revealed on Tuesday.

“It’s not good,” Jets Coach Robert Saleh said during the post-game press conference after the team’s week one win over the Bills. And he was definitely right. Not just about his superstar’s health, but New York’s situation going forward. His team rallied back to defeat Buffalo, 22-16, in overtime. However, despite coming in and getting the victory, Aaron Rodgers’ young understudy didn’t play all that well.

Zach Wilson only went 14-for-21 with 140 yards passing, He had one touchdown and one interception, and he finished the night with a paltry 22.6 Quarterback Rating. That’s a far cry from what Coach Saleh and Jets fans expected under center when they made the offseason deal to bring one of the greatest of all time to The Big Apple.

Aaron Rodgers suffered his injury after being sacked by veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd with 11:40 remaining in the first quarter. At first glance, it appeared as if the star signal-caller had gotten rolled up on the play and would be fine. He was even up and seemingly walking off the hit.

After a visit to the blue medical tent, he was carted to the locker room. After initially being labeled as questionable to return with an ankle injury, he was later downgraded to out. The Jets initially announced that his X-rays were negative during game time. Unfortunately, follow-up medical examinations revealed the Achilles tear just hours later, much to the horror of Aaron Rodgers’ teammates, coaches, and fans.

The Jets (1-0) will travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys (1-0) this Sunday. It should be interesting to see how Wilson handles the pressure of replacing a legend – far sooner than anyone could have expected.
