You have to admire Colin Kaepernick’s persistence, even if it does seem a little pathetic at this point. The former NFL quarterback continues in his years-long quest to become relevant again, and that became even more apparent when he apparently sent a letter of inquiry to the New York Jets following Aaron Rodgers’ week 1 injury.

It seems that Colin Kaepernick, now 35 and a full seven years removed from the League, acknowledged that he wouldn’t be able to come in as a starter. However, in extended prose, Kap laid out to the team why he thought he could be a contributor.

In fact? He offered to come to New York as a member of the practice squad. A plea which (understandably) has drawn some chuckles from his detractors.

“I am writing, of course, in response to the unfortunate loss of Aaron Rodgers,” the letter partially states. “I know the aspirations this season were, and still are, to win a championship, and so that Hall of Fame-sized hole will need to be filled as best as possible to keep the team on a Super Bowl track. As of now, Zach Wilson is charged with that task, and I wish him and the team the best going forward.”

That’s when Kaepernick broached the idea of coming in as a no-risk pickup for the Jets.

“This plan, I believe, allows me to be of great service to the team as a practice squad QB, while also giving you a low-commitment chance to assess my capabilities to help in any other capacity you may see fit. Worst case scenario, you see what I have to offer and you’re not that impressed.”

Rodgers went down just four plays into the 2023 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. In his place, current starter Zach Wilson has struggled mightily and is currently the second-lowest-rated quarterback in the NFL through three weeks. However, despite all this, the team hasn’t publicly expressed any interest in Colin Kaepernick so far. And if the pundits around the League are correct? They likely won’t.
