The Puerto Rican boxing champion who is changing the world of women’s boxing remains on top

After throwing a staggering 1,100 punches throughout her 12, three-minute rounds against Danila Ramos, Amanda the “Real Deal” Serrano can say proudly once again that she is remaining the IBF, WBO and WBA undisputed featherweight champion of the world.

Serrano won by unanimous decision through a score of 120-108, joking while interviewed later she could have gone as many rounds as necessary if the judges needed more convincing.

“What’s so funny is that when I was in there, I really couldn’t feel the difference,” Serrano said after the fight. “In the sixth round, I was like, is it really three minutes or did they go back to two minutes?

“I felt good. I was in really good shape. I trained really hard for this fight knowing I had to go out there and prove to everybody, prove people right or prove people wrong, that women can do whatever they put their minds to.”

The bout, free of knockdowns or dramatic finishes, showcased their strength and technique. Ramos, understanding the historic significance of the fight, accepted the challenge almost immediately, highlighting her commitment to equality and women’s rights.

The most thrilling moments occurred in the championship rounds, a new experience for both fighters. The match was held at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, amidst a supportive, sellout crowd energetically chanting for Amanda Serrano and waving Puerto Rican flags, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

Serrano and her team have stated their firm decision to only engage in boxing matches with three-minute rounds going forward, rejecting any potential fights against contenders like Skye Nicolson or Alycia Baumgardner if they prefer two-minute rounds.

The undisputed champion asserting her preference for longer rounds has the backing of her promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, who emphasized Serrano’s leading role in decision-making.

In her recent fight, Serrano adopted a strategic approach, carefully assessing her opponent Ramos in the initial rounds. Serrano explained this tactic was to conserve energy, especially since it was her first time competing in a 12-round fight with three-minute rounds.
