Former United States Women’s Soccer team star Carli Lloyd admits to a somewhat embarrassing moment for her and the team

Carli Lloyd is one of American soccer’s most decorated female players of all time. Part of the most recent wave of United States Women’s soccer sensations, she’s a two-time World Cup winner and two-time FIFA Player of the Year and has never been afraid to share her thoughts, given her star status in the sports

So it wasn’t surprising that Carli Lloyd was pretty open about a story involving a somewhat controversial contest that happened while she was a member of the squad. During an embarrassing encounter with a teenage boys’ team, the USWNT – at the time ranked number one in the world – actually lost… To a group of high school kids.

When the USWNT lost to the FC Dallas U-15 boys academy team, 5–2, several sports and news reported the result at the time. It was part of the team’s preparation for a friendly against Russia but went largely under the radar since. However, when a user on X asked Carli Lloyd about the debacle, she was refreshingly honest.

“Yes, it’s true,” Lloyd responded. “I know… thousands of people have already brought that up. They were good.”

Carli Lloyd added that the match wasn’t the only time the USWNT were beaten by a team full of younger boys, either. She said they were defeated by a squad from Germany, as well. But Lloyd also said the end result was the club winning the most prestigious title in the game, so any exhibition setbacks were worth it.

“We actually lost to a youth Bayern Munich team in my career as well,” she continued. “But then we went on to win Olympics and World Cups. So…”
