Toronto Raptors rookie Gradey Dick is tagged with a moniker that’s a testament to his manhood by the team’s mic man
Let’s be honest: Toronto Raptors guard Gradey Dick already has a somewhat unusual name. It’s one that has brought on a lot of grade school humor, clever crowd chants, and even funny headlines during his career as a Kansas Jayhawk and in the NBA. However, the Toronto public address announcer may have just hung a nickname on him that will be (…ahem) hard to shake off.
Herbie Kuhn took to the microphone and decided to have a little bit of fun last Wednesday when he announced the 20-year-old rookie’s name as he took the floor against the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Wearing number one… Mr. Big Dick energy!” Kuhn shouted to the surprised crowd, who nearly choked from laughter.
Kuhn has been with the Raptors franchise since 1995, so it’s doubtful that his joke about Gradey Dick will arouse any disciplinary action from the team.

Gradey Dick has certainly exploded on the scene in the NBA and has even used his silly surname as a way to market himself. He’s addressed the humor surrounding it with a sense of playfulness, and that’s really helped him connect with the fan base.
So far, the young player is only averaging 4.1 points per game and 15.4 minutes in his first year with Toronto. However, he’s been a streaky shooter from long range and it’s expected he will be a rock solid starter as he matures.
So, Gradey Dick is a name that we will likely be hearing about for a long time — no matter how funny some people might think it is.
