The boisterous and boastful Colby Covington is getting plenty of grief from his fellow combat warriors for his loss this weekend

Colby Covington went into his fight with Leon Edwards at UFC 296 with all his usual cockiness and swagger. He expected an easy night against the 32-year-old MMA veteran. What Covington got instead was a unanimous decision loss and sent home packing.

Edwards defeated Covington, 49-46, and had control for most of their bout. It was Edwards’ second successful defense of the UFC Welterweight title that he won from Kamaru Usman in August of 2022.

Colby Covington talked a lot of trash in the weeks leading up to the bout, being particularly venomous when discussing Edwards’ Jamaican father. Covington claims the elder Edwards – who was killed when Leon was just 13 years old – was “a sex trafficker and drug lord who killed people.”

“What about all the victims’ families who have to live on right now, live through all the things that [Edwards’ father] did to them, how he tormented those people?” Covington asked ahead of the fight. “So, no I don’t feel bad for him, the truth hurts and that’s why people hate me, I’m not afraid to say the truth, and the truth is what always stings the worst.”

Colby Covington Pays For His Remarks

In the end, it all backfired, and the only true sting was felt by Covington who looked slow and lacked ambition in a bout where his mouth wrote a check that his ass couldn’t cash. Edwards handled him with ease to retain his crown, and many of Colby Covington’s peers were quick to let him know about it.

Considering he’s known as UFC’s ‘Super Villain’, some of the shots fired by his fellow fighters at Covington were instant classics.

“If Colby’s offense tonight was an accurate depiction of the U.S. strength, we would have never gotten our independence from Britain, lost WWI, and got demoralized in WWII by a landslide,” Michael Chandler wrote on X. “Colby, you suck.”

Even much-maligned fighter Dillon Danis, who recently lost a farce of a boxing match with Logan Paul, got in on the action as well. He took a shot at Colby Covington with a bit of self-deprecating humor:

“I threw more punches than Colby Covington did,” he said.

A few of his fellow fighters poked fun at Covington and his close relationship with former President Donald Trump when chiding the fallen fighter.

Despite the loss, Colby Covington remains one of the UFC’s bigger draws at the box office. Any attempt he makes to avenge this loss is sure to draw attention as we get closer to the monumental UFC 300 event coming up on April 13, 2024.

Covington has already been challenged online by Gilbert Burns to meet up at UFC 299 event in Miami on March 9th.
