The NBA, NFL, and others have expressed their thoughts regarding the mass shooting that took place at UNLV on Wednesday

Following the tragic mass shooting near the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Wednesday, several prominent names, pro sports teams, universities, and others – offered their reactions. It was a show of solidarity from the sporting world amid a sorrowful situation.

News reports broke during the afternoon that an active shooter was on the UNLV campus. Three people were killed and one wounded, before police were able to on the scene.

Law enforcement officials would later report that the suspect – who was reportedly a former college professor and had previously applied to teach at UNLV – had been killed by police during the rampage.

As a result of the shocking turn of events, several individuals and organizations around the sports world reacted with statements or canceled scheduled events as a show of respect.

That, of course, included the NFL team that shares the same city, the Las Vegas Raiders. The organization issued a public statement of support via its official page on X.

“The Las Vegas Raiders are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at UNLV today,” the statement reads. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. We are committed to helping our friends at UNLV and the greater Las Vegas community heal and are grateful for the efforts of our first responders.”

The NBA had planned to do a “marquee takeover” on the Strip to promote their ongoing In-Season Tournament but canceled it following the shootings. Also sending out city-wide condolences were the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the NHL’s Golden Knights.
