After a convincing win in a boxing ring this weekend, Jake Paul is now facing the prospect of facing a former UFC Welterweight Champion
No sooner had Jake Paul just finished knocking out Andre August in a boxing match over the weekend, he’s now facing a mixed martial arts challenge from UFC star Tyron Woodley.
Woodley, 41, is a St. Louis-area product who became an All-American on the mat as a wrestler at the University of Missouri before moving on to MMA. He captured the UFC Welterweight Title back in 2016, but he’s faded out of the limelight Significantly since. Woodley has lost his last four contests in the Octagon. Nonetheless, he’s still looking to take on the younger fighter, Jake Paul.
The two aren’t strangers, by any means. In fact, they have already faced each other in two separate boxing matches in 2021. Jake Paul won both of those showdowns.
This time, though, Woodley wants to lock the YouTube influencer up in the Octagon and take him on with MMA rules, according to TMZ Sports.
“I think if you’re gonna fight anyone in MMA, you fight me MMA,” Woodley told TMZ. “I’m the one that did the numbers with you. I’m the one that did the millions and millions of views in the press conference. I’m the one that was a 5x champion. I’m the one who took the fight on 2 weeks’ notice.”
Jake Paul has not commented on Woodley’s challenge but has stated that he is serious about his boxing career going forward. So, it’s not likely that he wants to fight in an MMA setting again, but if the money is right? Anything is possible in the fight world. For now? Paul has said on more than one occasion that he is aiming for a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez.
