In a recent interview with Theo Von, UFC star Sean Strickland came clean about his past, his controversial blowup with Dricus du Plessis, and more

UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland recently sat down with popular podcaster Theo Von to discuss a myriad of topics, including his upcoming showdown with Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297 on January 20th.

Sean Strickland Speaks On Dricus du Plessis

The always-outspoken Strickland held nothing back, as usual. He touched on the confrontation between himself and du Plessis while both were guest spectators at UFC 296 – one where he was eventually escorted from the event.

Sean Strickland also remarked on his traumatic past, and the fact that du Plessis has mocked him over it led to all the bad blood. Strickland has a well-known (and legally documented) history with his father, who was mentally and physically abusive to the family.

Sensing that as a potential Achille’s Heel for the champion, du Plessis seized on Strickland’s past, saying during the pre-fight press conference, “You think your dad beat the s*** out of you? Your dad doesn’t have s*** on me.”

Crossing The Line

“There’s some things that are off limits,” Sean Strickland said during an interview on comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast.

“You don’t really talk about a man’s wife, you don’t talk about a man’s kids, and you don’t about a kid being abused. These things are all off-limits. Once he crossed that … I tried to f****** ignore it. I was boiling.”

“I was in probably third or fourth grade, I used to always sleep in my mom’s room because I thought my dad was going to kill my mom. So I would sleep by the door, I’d sleep under the bed. I’d sleep by the door because I thought my dad was going to kill my mom.”

“Whenever Dricus goes on there and he jokes about that s***, dude, you have no idea,” Strickland added. “I’ll f****** kill you, you have no idea. I think the issue is, too, when you’re a kid and you’re made to be a victim your whole life, as an adult, you’re like, never again. I’ll f****** kill you.”

Sean Strickland 28-5 will get his opportunity for revenge very soon. He and du Plessis will meet at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in a little over two weeks. We’ll see who gets taken to the woodshed then.
