For the first WWE show of 2024, Chief Content Officer HHH promised that a former world champion would be returning to Raw on Monday night.

And boy did he deliver.

Sports Illustrated reports:

The Rock returned to Monday Night Raw, interrupting a heel promo from Jinder Mahal—and sent a message to Roman Reigns.

Mahal represented a perfect juxtaposition, embracing the chance to get booed by insulting the crowd in San Diego and the United States of America. That set the stage for The Rock’s music to hit, and the crowd erupted as he played his greatest hits. That included his trademark “Finally” open, chants from the crowd, and a brief Rock concert before laying the smack down on Mahal.

This marked Rock’s first appearance on WWE programming since SmackDown in September. But there was one difference here: Rock made a “Head of the Table” comment, sparking immediate speculation that his next showdown will be with Roman Reigns.

So… What’s Next?

The back and forth between The Rock and Mahal entertained the crowd, but with speculation about who might face Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 2024, it was Dwayne Johnson’s “Head of the Table” remark that is particularly newsworthy.

Many expected Cody Rhodes to challenge Reigns for his title at this year’s WrestleMania.

Does that honor now go to Johnson? There are two major WWE Premium Live Events between now and WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble at the end of January and Elimination Chamber in Australia in February.

Either of those could also potentially feature The Rock vs. Roman Reigns as the main event.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the weeks to come no matter what happens.
