The Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is not until July 26. That’s roughly three months away. This has not stopped planners from preparing for the hundreds of thousands that will make their way to the French capital.

One such preparation is the promotion of safe sex among athletes in the Olympic Village.

Laurent Dalard, who will be tasked with coordinating the health services for the games, spoke to media just recently. Dalard made sure to point out that condoms will be made readily available to the athletes as the Summer Olympics return to some sense of normalcy following the COVID-centric 2020 games.

“We don’t know how many people are likely to use them and obviously we’ll adapt to the requirements if needed,” Dalard said, via Agence France-Presse.

It’s no surprise that those tasked with the planning are preparing for what has been described as a “hook-up culture” within Olympic Villages in the past.

Given that 10,500 athletes are expected to compete, this seems to be a bit of overkill. That’s roughly 20 condoms per athlete during the 16-day event. Talk about some active hormones.

Even then, we’ve read a ton of stories about just how sexually active Olympics have been in past events. It was back in 2012 that U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte estimated 70-75% of athletes are sexually active during the games.

“My last Olympics, I had a girlfriend — big mistake,” Lochte said back in 2012. “Now I’m single, so London should be really good. I’m excited.”

The stories don’t come close to stopping there.

“The next morning,” Olympian Josh Lakatos said, “swear to God, the entire women’s 4×100 relay team of some Scandinavian-looking country walks out of the house, followed by boys from our side. And I’m just going, ‘Holy crap, we’d watched these girls run the night before.'”

That’s certainly one way to fix strained diplomatic relations the world over.
