After a NASCAR race in Phoenix, Arizona last weekend, Erik Jones spoke out to say that it seems like Chase Briscoe has an “issue” with him every week. This left Briscoe stunned, and he’s been trying to figure out what he did to bother the Legacy Motor Club driver ever since.

Drama Between Jones And Briscoe

“(Briscoe) put us four-wide because he’s slowing us down so much and I got wrecked, so that sucks,” Jones said, according to News Journal Online. “He seems to have an issue with me every week. I’ll call him this week. He probably won’t call me back but I’d love to talk to him.”

Briscoe initially responded by expressing his confusion to reporters.

“I know we were four-wide at one point and I got super tight and got into him, I think,” Briscoe said. “If he calls me, I’ll gladly answer. I’ve never really talked to Erik before. I don’t have a problem with him at all.”

Briscoe Still Confused

Briscoe told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Tuesday that Jones still hasn’t reached out to him in the wake of these comments, and he has no idea what he could have done to deserve them.

“I haven’t got a phone call or anything yet. I don’t really know still, what he’s super mad about, to be honest with you,” Briscoe said. “I know that we were four-wide at one point, and I know I got barely into him off of turn four, and then a couple laps later is when Bubba [Wallace] hit him. Same thing, we were four-wide. Bubba kinda hit me in the door, slid up and hit Erik.

“It was one of those deals where we were four-wide into one, and we all just kind of ran out of room,” the Stewart-Haas racer continued. “But I think that’s what he’s mad about, I think.”

Jones Would Be Glad To Talk To Him’

Briscoe has watched replays of the race multiple times to try to figure out what angered Jones, but he still doesn’t see anything that he did wrong.

“I don’t know if he just hasn’t called me because he watched the replay and realized it wasn’t really me that did it. But I haven’t heard from him,” Briscoe lamented. “If he calls me, I’d be glad to talk to him, and really kind of explain everything to him. But yeah, I haven’t heard from him yet.

“I’m out there racing,” he added. “When I went and watched the replay, I was obviously concerned about it, when I heard his comments. When I watched it, I didn’t feel like it was anything that bad. I thought it was just a racing deal, where four guys were all kind of going for the same spot, and it all just kind of closed up.”

Bristol and Jones will be racing again at the Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday. It will certainly be interesting to see if the drama between them continues to escalate, or if they are able to set it aside and move on.
