On Friday, organizers for the 2024 Summer Olympics shared how they intend to use artificial intelligence in sports, joining the worldwide trend of capitalizing on this new and popular technology.

International Olympic Committee officials said that AI could be used to help find athletes with promise, personalize training methods and improve judging games.

‘We Are Determined to Exploit the Vast Potential of AI in a Responsible Way’

IOC President Thomas Bach said during a press event at the former London Olympic Park, “Today we are making another step to ensure the uniqueness of the Olympic Games and the relevance of sport. To do this, we have to be leaders of change.”

London Olympic Park was the home of the Olympic summer games in 2012.

Bach added, “We are determined to exploit the vast potential of AI in a responsible way.”

These remarks about the use of AI were made in anticipation of the Paris Olympics which are coming up in less than 100 days.

AI has many uses and more will be discovered as this technology continues to grow.

But for Olympic officials, one of those uses is definitely security at the games.

The Associated Press reported, “The IOC’s AI plans also include using the technology to protect athletes from online harassment and to help broadcasters improve the viewing experience for people watching from home. The IOC earns earns billions of dollars through the sale of broadcast rights for the games. The local organizers of the Paris games have already sparked controversy with their plans to use artificial intelligence for security, with a video surveillance system that includes AI-powered cameras to flag potential security risks such as abandoned packages or crowd surges.”
