Young San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is as unassuming as they get. The former seventh-round pick out of Iowa State does his talking on the field.

He’s led San Francisco to two NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl in two seasons as its starter after becoming Mr. Irrelevant back in 2022.

Purdy is also apparently somewhat of a superhero.

The star quarterback appeared on the Pat McAfee Show recently and shared a story of saving a reporter from a coyote during a shoot for a John Deere Commercial. This is not a drill. It actually happened back in February.

“I can’t believe that was a real thing but I can confirm that did happen,” Brock Purdy told McAfee.

During a photo shoot for the commercial this past February, a coyote started to track down a CBS News Bay Area reporter and her dog. That’s when Purdy jumped into action.

Just imagine being that reporter and Purdy joins in with some of his teammates to make sure that you and your best pup are not mauled by a wild coyote. That had to be an absolutely insane scene.

Risking life and limb for millions on the football field is one thing. Risking it to save a stranger is a completely different story.

As for Purdy, he’s relying a ton on endorsement deals. The 24-year-old signal caller is playing under a mere four-year, $3.74 million contract. He’s among the lowest-paid starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Of course, that will change after the 2024 season. Purdy will become eligible for a contract extension that will likely make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Perhaps, he’ll be able to stop sharing an apartment with a teammate in the ultra-expensive Bay Area market.

Either way, all heroes don’t wear capes. Some sport football helmets and drive John Deere tractors. Just some food for thought.
