Sherrone Moore, the ex-head coach for the University of Michigan Wolverines, has been hit with serious criminal charges stemming from an alleged break-in at a staffer’s home, authorities announced Friday.

Moore was fired earlier this week after the university uncovered credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

Hours later, he was arrested in Saline, Michigan, on an assault investigation at a home, shocking the sports world. It seems the staffer, whose name has surfaced on social media, was the target, according to TMZ.

Charges were finally revealed just moments before Moore was to be arraigned. The former Michigan coach is facing some pretty stiff penalties.

Moore is facing one felony count of home invasion in the third degree, along with misdemeanor charges of stalking and breaking and entering. The former felony charge, according to the outlet, carries up to five years in prison and/or a $2,000 penalty.

The stalking charge could lead to an additional year and/or a $1,000 penalty and up to five years of probation, while the breaking-and-entering count carries a 90-day and/or $500 penalty.

Sherrone Moore story gets worse and worse

The incident involving Sherrone Moore and the alleged victim reportedly unfolded on Wednesday evening, when the disgraced coach allegedly forced his way into the residence of the staffer involved in the scandal.

Prosecutors have not yet released specifics as to the motive or sequence of events, but sources close to the investigation describe the encounter as “escalatory.”

Officials say the staffer ended the relationship, and she then notified the University of the improper situation. His firing then prompted Moore to inundate her with text messages and phone calls. When that didn’t work, he reportedly “barged his way” into the woman’s apartment.

Once inside, a prosecutor told a judge that Moore went to a kitchen drawer, grabbed several butter knives and a pair of scissors, and said, “I am going to kill myself, I’m going to make you watch, my blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.”

They contend that while the threats were not leveled directly at the victim, the “totality” of his behavior was “highly threatening” and the woman felt “she was terrorized.”

Absolutely frightening stuff.

Terrorized

According to dispatch audio, posted at Bounding Into Sports, a woman called 911 from her Ann Arbor home that day, claiming Sherrone Moore had stalked her for months before breaking in and attacking her.

In the chilling dispatch audio, the operator urgently coordinates a response after the woman reported the assault, with mentions of Moore having a knife. The operator says the suspect is suicidal after “losing his job today.”

Upon learning of the affair, Michigan swiftly terminated Moore, who has a wife and three daughters, with cause, saying his behavior was “a clear violation of university policy.”

Moore was released on a $25,000 bond. He was ordered not to have contact with the victim and to wear a GPS monitor.

It is a dark, dark day for Michigan football. A program that has embarrassed itself with scandal after scandal for several years now.

Biff Poggi has been named interim coach as Michigan prepares to play Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31st. He is 2-0 as head coach, having to fill in for Moore in the past due to previous suspensions.

As this is a rapidly developing story, Bounding Into Sports will keep readers updated as events warrant.
