Mark Teixeira Wins Texas 21st District GOP Primary
Former New York Yankees World Series champion Mark Teixeira has won the Republican primary for Texas’ 21st Congressional District, according to projections from the Associated Press.
The former MLB first baseman, who helped lead the Yankees to victory in 2009 and also played for the Texas Rangers, secured a decisive victory in the crowded GOP field.
Teixeira captured approximately 61% of the vote, leading his closest opponent by a wide margin of over 50 points, avoiding a runoff in the 12-candidate race to replace outgoing Rep. Chip Roy. Roy is pursuing the Texas attorney general position.
“This is a huge victory, and I’m truly honored to have such strong support from the people of TX-21. Thank you!” Teixeira wrote on X. “I’m so grateful to everyone who voted, put in the work, donated, and especially prayed for us along the way.”
“My amazing family has been by my side every step of the way – my wonderful wife Leigh and our three kids – and I’m blessed by their support as I prepare to serve the country we love.”

Teixeira, a lifelong conservative and first-time political candidate, entered the race with significant advantages, including heavy self-funding—he loaned millions to his campaign—and key endorsements from President Donald Trump, Gov. Greg Abbott, and multiple Texas Republican congressmen.
He said he aims to defend President Trump’s agenda and protect Texas families.
“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” a statement read when he announced his run. “It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”

The former Yankees star also offered up prayers for Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder, who was assassinated in September. As well as defending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents against escalating threats.
America first. Illegals last, for Teixeira.
The solidly Republican district, covering parts of the Texas Hill Country including areas north of San Antonio and west of Austin, was rated as safe GOP territory by the Cook Political Report.
With the primary victory, Teixeira is now the heavy favorite to claim the seat in the November general election, where he will face the Democratic nominee.
Teixeira, now 45, enjoyed a 14-season career in the Major Leagues, debuting with the Texas Rangers in 2003 and later playing for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees, where he contributed to their 2009 World Series victory.
Throughout his career, he earned three Silver Slugger Awards, five Gold Gloves, and hit 409 home runs on his way to three All-Star nominations.
