Card collecting is all about the autographs. If you can pull an autographed rookie card, that’s like hitting a jackpot. Better yet, pulling a rookie autograph of a future Hall of Famer? That’s bound to have the pack opener shaking.

Mike Trout may not be your average card collector, but he happens to have a bit of extra time on his hands lately after being shut down with a season-ending injury. With more time to spare, he’s been using part of his opportunity to open baseball cards with his young son.

Most card packs don’t have anything too special, but one popular item among collectors is purchasing previously released Bowman packs from 2009. That’s because they have a chance to feature Mike Trout autographed rookie cards.

Somehow, Trout, when opening packs with his son, happened to pull a Trout rookie autograph.

This is a card that is listed on Ebay for roughly $8,800. For the average collector, that’s a life-changing pull. But not for the three-time MVP, with a career earnings of over $267 million from his MLB contracts alone.

Can you imagine pulling something so cool? This was undoubtedly a special moment for Trout and his young son. It may be one they’ll never forget. What’s crazier, is that the card was located in the very first pack he opened. Talk about some good luck!

Trout’s son, Beckham, knew exactly what to do with it right away. Protect it with a case that keeps their new prized Trout autographed rookie card out of harm’s way.

“Daddy, let’s put it in one of these,” Beckham said, referring to a protective sleeve.
