The New York Yankees dropped an Opening Day hype video that is so bad that they should have to forfeit all 27 of their World Series titles.
Yes, today marks a big day in Major League Baseball, as the rest of the league (sans the Dodgers and Cubs after their Tokyo series) begins their quest for a World Series ring.
As such, social media is filled with posts hyping up their team and their season opener. But, I can assure you, none of them look like this.
The most storied franchise in baseball history managed to grab some guy named ‘Johnny 2 Phones’ to perform a song called “Yankee, Baby (Stadium Anthem).”
The video is filled with travesties, from the performer wearing Derek Jeter’s jersey number to his also wearing red gear that looks more like the Anaheim Angels, to very awkward appearances by people pretending they just ‘gotta get to the stadium.’
It’s bad. Real bad. Take a look …

Opening Day Is Off To A Terrible Start For The Yankees
Whatever happens after this, whether they win today or not, the Yankees will have had a terrible Opening Day. (Side note – Despite the guy in the video declaring, “Is that Johnny 2 Phones?” I was unable to find out who Mr. 2 Phones is. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page).
Anyway, fans weren’t too thrilled with the hype video. And they made it clear on social media.
“Gave this guy a #2 jersey and let him put his ‘name’ on it and rep a red hat in a promo video,” one fan wrote on X. “We’re so toast. See you in 2026.”
“This belongs on the Mets page, not The Bronx. Can we not do better than this?” another person said. “Give me something ready for the Zoo!”
One Yankee fan joked, “They should have brought back Fat Joe.”
Who Could Forget Fat Joe?
As for that last post, man, the Yankees aren’t exactly on a roll lately with their fan outreach game. This Opening Day video just makes it worse.
If you’ve got people having flashbacks to Fat Joe, it’s pretty bad. Remember that incident during last year’s World Series?
Fat Joe and the New York Yankees were widely ridiculed for the rapper’s performance before the start of Game 3 of the 2024 World Series.
Fat Joe was seen ambling about the diamond and struggling to ad-lib, something he likely had to do to make some of the lyrics more palatable to the crowd. It was a flipping train wreck.

Dodgers players even mocked them after winning the Series.
“We go to New York, and this guy, he used to be fat. He’s not fat anymore. His name is Joe. He came out and sang, and guess what?” Los Angeles outfielder Kiké Hernandez said. “We didn’t even need to play, because after that performance, we had already won.”

The fans even blamed Fat Joe for that loss. Until the Yankees win another World Series, fans will always remember the Curse of Fat Joe.
