It seems that while Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown can be a genius on the basketball court, the three-time All-Star is just as brilliant in his passions off of it.
Heading into the NBA games tonight, the Celtics will have a day of rest after scoring another win in their Eastern Conference Finals series against the Indiana Pacers. A huge part of their current 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven has been the outstanding play of Jaylen Brown.

In Game 1 he scored 26 and hit some massive shots in overtime to secure a big victory. Then on Thursday night, he posted a playoff career-high 40 points in a dominant 126-110 win for his squad in Game 2. It was just the latest example of why the franchise gave him a massive five-year $286 million extension last year. However, the 27-year-old has long been much more than a gifted basketball player.
In a new Instagram video post from Black and Brown Success, the social media account went into depth on some of the surprising achievements of the NBA star before he even reached the league, and one of them may surprise many basketball fans.
The account claims that when NBA scouts looked into Brown’s background, some thought he might grow bored with basketball because he had other notable academic passions. While he was at Cal-Berkeley he was taking graduate classes as a freshman, was on the varsity chess team, and his success in physics classes actually led to getting an internship offer from NASA.

He speaks multiple languages and is the youngest lecturer in Harvard history — something he did during his second season in the league. The information adds more layers to a player who was already seen as unique in basketball circles. But it shows he has some distinct qualities that are all positive and make him a great representative of the league.
