Cam Newton isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to Rashee Rice, suggesting the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver needs to get his act together.
On a recent episode of his podcast “4th & 1,” Newton urged Rice to focus on what matters most. But he also had a warning for the 24-year-old.
“If I were to see [Rice], boy you’re too loud right now bro. What are you doing it for?” the former Carolina Panthers quarterback said.
“You got kids. What you want to do it for? You got family to take care of. What do you want to do it for? Keep that s— in perspective. Keep the main thing, the main thing.”

Newton: Rashee Rice Needs To Watch It
Newton continued offering what he feels is helpful advice by warning Rice that he’s not bigger than the NFL. In fact, he notes, nobody is. Not even a much bigger name on the Kansas City Chiefs.
“And how many times do we see this? Because I will tell you this, there’s not a person in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes included… the league don’t need you bro,” adds Newton. “Trust me, they do not need you.”

Readers of Bounding Into Sports are well-versed in the off-field struggles of Rashee Rice this off-season.
Rice is facing a slew of felony charges stemming from a high-speed car crash in late March. He then was accused, but not charged, of assaulting a person at a downtown Dallas nightclub at around 2:30 in the morning.
And that’s when the past started cropping up.
Reports surfaced that Rice was involved in a gun incident during his time at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He is alleged to have “fired multiple bullets into the empty car” of SMU basketball player Kendric Davis, according to Pro Football Talk.

Further reporting also indicates an old scouting report labeled Rashee Rice a “scout’s nightmare” and talented, but “not a good dude.”
Pro Football Talk indicates Rice’s troubling gun incident was known to every team before the 2023 NFL draft “including the Chiefs.”
Scouting reports, additionally, pegged him as having behavioral issues. Kansas City took him anyway.
To Cam Newton’s point, the NFL doesn’t need Rice. And quite frankly, the Chiefs might feel they don’t need him either. Earlier this month, NFL insider James Palmer indicated the team is preparing to be without Rice for “half a season at least.”
In the meantime, KC selected Xavier Worthy, a blistering-fast wide receiver out of the University of Texas, with their first-round pick in the NFL draft. They also added 26-year-old wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to the offense.
Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP, was involved in a physical altercation at a 7-on-7 youth football tournament in Atlanta earlier this year. Newton has struggled to sign with a new team the past two seasons despite his past success.
