Stephen A. Smith made a surprise appearance on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown prior to the matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens.

Did he say something insightful? Doubtful, but ya know, maybe. There is that whole blind squirrel theory. Did he provide a necessary news update regarding the game? Intelligent analysis regarding the matchup?

Nobody knows. Why? Because everybody was focused on his outfit.

Smith delivered a real-life version of the iconic Steve Buscemi “How do you do, fellow kids” meme. The 57-year-old looked like his Mom dressed him before the first day of school, after some last-minute shopping at JC Penney’s.

Fans Rip Stephen A Smith

Social media delivered in spades with its commentary about mith’s new fit. It was relentless, and most importantly, it was hilarious.

“1987 called, they want their fit back,” one person wrote.

Another shredded, “@stephenasmith looking like he’s ready to be a back up dancer for @KrisKross video.”

Others simply replied with the Buscemi meme. Smith, after all, was even sporting the backward hat for reasons known only to him.

“Stephen A went to Macy’s before the game,” another joked.

The Crew Teased Him Too

Smith’s appearance was allegedly unplanned. He was in the stands to watch the Ravens take on the Chargers but was called down to join the broadcast.

Well, maybe not the stand, come to think of it.

Smith was on the field with Scott Van Pelt, Clark, Jason Kelce, and Marcus Spears. Even the crew noticed Stephen A’s fresh outfit.

“Where you sitting tonight, Stephen A?” Clark asked. “Are you going to be in the stands?”

“No,” he replied. “I’m in the owner’s suite.”

Which prompted Van Pelt to opine, “Those shoes aren’t sitting in the stands.”

The Ravens beat the Chargers, by the way, 30-23. But the real winners on Monday night were the fans who got to see Smith at his fashionable best.
