Travis Kelce was humiliated on Sunday night when his team got trounced in the Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles. Indeed, the Chiefs lost handily by a score of 40-22, but that score doesn’t tell the true tale of the beating.

In the wake of this brutal defeat, reports quickly circulated suggesting that Kelce will now retire from professional football. These rumors were only compounded by comments that Kelce himself made on his New Heights podcast and the fact that at 35, he is practically ancient for such a punishing position.

Now, however, new reports have come out claiming that Kelce may give it another go after all.

Kelce May Not Retire After All

A well-placed source told The Sun that while Kelce was left “crushed” by his Super Bowl defeat, the 35 year-old tight end is “already thinking” about next season. This insider went on to claim that Kelce is “super motivated” to correct the mistakes that he and his team made in the Super Bowl this year.

Kelce is even allegedly asking about offseason fitness schedules to make sure that he’s in the best shape possible for the coming season. Indeed, according to this source, Kelce is “hungry” for more glory in professional football.

“He isn’t going to retire,” the source explained. “He wants to win more Super Bowls. His goal is to play three more seasons.”

From retirement to “three more” seasons is quite the window.

“Travis wants to keep being very important for the Chiefs,” the insider continued. “He still feels that he can play at the highest level for three seasons, and I am sure that if he decides to stay with the Chiefs at the end of his current contract, there will be no issues extending his deal. Travis feels very happy here and knows that next season has to be perfect.”

Kelce reportedly also has another goal in mind.

“He is desperate to make the Chiefs make history again,” the source explained. “And to help brother Patrick Mahomes get closer to Tom Brady by winning more rings. He wants to keep showing that he is one of the best in the league.”

Kelce Suggests He May Retire

This report has come as a surprise to some, given the comments that Kelce made on his New Heights podcast earlier this week.

“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m kicking every can I can down the road,” a dejected Kelce said on his podcast after the Super Bowl loss. “I’m not making any crazy decisions [yet]. Right now the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing.”

“The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three games than everybody else in the entire league,” he explained. “That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself. That process can be grueling, it can weigh on you.”

Kelce Doubles Down

Many felt that this was Kelce’s way of letting fans know that he will likely be retiring. Indeed, he only doubled down from there.

“It can make you better [but] it can drive you crazy at the same time, and right now it’s one of those things where it was kind of driving me crazy this year,” he admitted. “It happens when you kind of tail off towards the back nine of your career. When you feel yourself not have the success that you used to have, it’s a tough pill to swallow.”

“And then on top of that to not be there in the biggest moments, knowing your team’s counting on you man… it’s just a tough reality,” Kelce concluded. “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out.”

It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not Kelce decides to play another season. Only time will tell what his ultimate decision will be!
