Seventeen-time Grammy winner CeCe Winans performed the national anthem before the Detroit Lions–Green Bay Packers game at Ford Field on Thanksgiving Day. And man, was it a beauty.
Her powerful, gospel-infused rendition brought players, coaches, and fans to tears. Even the visiting Packers players were visibly moved on the sideline.
Social media immediately erupted with praise, calling it the most emotional and best-performed anthem in NFL history.
It was a great rendition for sure. Simple, yet simultaneously powerful.
The best of all time? That goes to Whitney Houston. Was this one right up there? You guys and gals decide.

Praise for the National Anthem
It gives you chills, doesn’t it? An especially striking national anthem, perhaps made even more so with the tragic terrorist attack in Washington, D.C., on the eve of Thanksgiving.
Fans were simply enamored with it. They flooded the NFL’s and Lions’ accounts demanding that CeCe Winans be booked for the Super Bowl LIX pregame show in New Orleans.
“Brought this 22-year Navy veteran to tears! Wow! Beautiful National Anthem!” one fan wrote on X.
Another observed, “This was one of the best anthems I’ve heard in a long time. She killed it, wow.”
“One of the best renditions of our National Anthem that I’ve ever heard – no one can do it like CeCe Winans,” another posted. “The absolute perfect choice for Thanksgiving Day – so moving!
Clips of the performance quickly went viral, amassing millions of views and shares within hours.

We need more of that
Good, solid, heartfelt renditions of the national anthem are making a bit of a comeback, apparently. Patriotism, despite everything you’re seeing from some politicians, is making a comeback.
Tinashe, a 32-year-old R&B singer and songwriter from Pasadena, California, stunned baseball fans with a powerful rendition of her own national anthem before Game 4 of the World Series.
Major League Baseball (MLB) posted video of Tinashe’s performance on Instagram, calling it “incredible.”
During a Monday Night Football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders earlier this season, retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Robert Carter’s stirring rendition of the national anthem moved star defensive tackle Chris Jones to tears.
Navy veteran Generald Wilson delivered a beautiful performance of the national anthem at the NBA season opener between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Many of these performances amount to a transcendent moment at their respective events. They remind everyone why live, heartfelt performances still matter in sports.
