The WNBA’s newest superstar has been at the center of controversy. It all started when an opponent, Chennedy Carter of the Chicago Sky dropped Caitlin Clark with a cheap shot from behind.

And this was cheap. The ball wasn’t even in play. Clark wasn’t even looking, and had her back turned. Watch:

The disgusting blindside from Carter became national news, and everyone has an opinion. Including Pat McAfee.

He got in a little hot water over comments he made about what’s going on in the WNBA. Essentially, his argument is that Caitlin Clark is being targeted because she’s white, hot, and on top of the world.

While pantomiming Clark detractors, McAfee said:

“What the WNBA currently has is what we like to describe as a cash cow. There is a superstar,” he said. “And we’re not saying that the players on the court need to act any differently. That’s the athletes are going to do what the athletes are going to do in any sport. I think we’re all learning, that the WNBA … that’s old-school football, baby.”

“I would like the media people that continue to say, ‘This rookie class, this rookie class, this rookie class’. Nah, just call it for what it is – there’s one white b—- for the Indiana team who is a superstar.”

In context, everyone knew what McAfee was saying, but he apologized anyway.

Now, Caitlin Clark is finally weighing in.

Caitlin Clark Addresses Pat McAfee Comments

With his apology, Pat McAfee said he reached out to Caitlin Clark directly to apologize. Apparently, that did the trick, according to McAfee.

McAfee said, ‘I did reach out to Caitlin Clark through the Fever, sent an apology and then got a message back that she said it was all good. No blood. We move forward. And she appreciates us reaching out and apologizing.”

That reads about right. As we’ve seen from Caitlin Clark’s interactions with the press, she’s a cool customer. She knows exactly what’s happening, just like everybody else who is honest.

It’s great that she accepted McAfee’s apology. But McAfee isn’t the one who should be apologizing for anything.

Clark Opponents Double Down

As for Chennedy Carter and Clark’s nemesis, Angel Reese, they’re doubling down.

Don’t expect any apologies from these two. As a matter of fact, you can clearly see in the video that before bodychecking Clark, Chennedy Carter mouths the word “bitch.”

Of the incident, Carter said, “I’m going to compete and play 100% hard no matter who it is or who we’re playing,” and “We’ve been able to take a lot of hits in the last 24, 48 hours. I’m over here smiling,” she continued. “I’m not complaining. … At the end of the day, it’s all love outside of basketball. When we’re in those four lines, it’s smoke. After, it’s all love.”

We can assume from the jubilant celebration by Angel Reese of Carter’s cheap shot that she has no regrets.

And so it falls on Caitlin Clark to keep standing tall and take her lumps. Unless the WNBA decides that player safety is important to them.
