Kofoid participated in the 3-day USAC Nationals at Huset’s Speedway that began on Friday, July 8th and ran through the weekend wrapping up the Championship on Sunday, July 10th.

He would win both races of the NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series on Friday and Saturday night and would be the odds on favorite to sweep going into Sunday.

On Facebook, leading up to the race on Sunday, Kofoid wrote, “The last couple nights have been awesome here at Husets Speedway for the USAC Nationals! Final night tonight chasing $22k for 100 laps!”

However, Kofoid would not taste victory on Sunday night. Instead he went for a crazy ride less than 10 laps into the race.

Trying to rim ride the outside of the track his right rear appears to catch the outside cushion and it sends his car tumbling and flipping down the track at least five times before it finally comes to a stop at the exit of the turn.

Before the wreck, Kofoid charged through the field moving up to third after starting in eighth. Kofoid took his time exiting the vehicle, but did eventually get out on his own power after the track’s safety crew rushed over to him.

He was then treated in an ambulance at the track. Kofoid was already back in the car earlier this week scoring a 2nd place finish at Solomon Valley Raceway in Kansas.

Kofoid wouldn’t be the only one to go for a wild ride during the race. With 56 laps to go, Justin Grant flipped over about three times after Cannon McIntosh drifted up the track and Grant ran into McIntosh’s right rear tire.

Grant would safely exit the vehicle and then described what happened, “I just got in against the cushion, there, and Cannon come blazing across. It’s tough racing, you know. Everybody’s going really, really hard. And I’ve been on the other end of those.”

“Cannon’s a good kid. I’m sure he didn’t square off on that restart and say, ‘Boy, I’m going to crash Grant.’ We’re all racing really, really hard. It’s a game of inches and we kind of just ran out of inches there. Hate for my guys. Hate it for NOS Energy Drink. We had a really, really good car,” he added.

The two wrecks placed 4th on FloRacing’s COMP Cams Top 5 Moments for the week, which you can see below.

Another wreck occurred just before the midway break of the race involving Taylor Reimer. However, FloRacing’s cameras were not able to pick it up aside from the aftermath

The track announcer did witness it and described it saying, “Whoa! Huge! Down into the corner! My goodness gracious! I thought she was going to clear the fence. Taylor Reimer goes for a wicked ride down in turn number 1 and 2.”

The track reporter also detailed, “The fence is torn up over here in the middle of turns 1 and 2. And I’m here to tell you that’s not the highest point that she reached on that incident. Where this fence is torn up over here that was about where the left rear was and the nose was pointed up on top of that. That was a wild one over here.”

Cannon McIntosh would end up taking the win as well as the overall point champion for the weekend, which earned him an extra $10,000,
