FOX Sports host Skip Bayless admitted he’s a slave to his work and that his wife comes second to his job in an attempt to relate to Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

Bayless took to Twitter earlier this month where he wrote, “My career will always come first. But my wife Ernestine, who is a vital part of my life, has become 1a) in our years together.”

He then shared a clip from The Skip Bayless Show where he states, “I’ve said I can relate to Tom Brady only on one small level, on my little level. On my first date with my wife Ernestine, that was 17 years ago, I told her if this goes any place, anywhere, any way, I said you will always be number two to my career, which is my life, which is what I was born to do.”

He continued, “This was on the first date. We were eating a slice of pizza on First Avenue in New York City, in Manhattan. She now likes to say well at least you became a 1a to my career. She has. She has become a vital part in my life.

But as I’ve said, if at any point she’d gotten tired of me. All the prepping I do like a maniac every week night, watching every game that’s ever played, getting up at 2 o’clock in the morning, pouring every ounce of my being in to every live minute of Undisputed.

If at any point Ernestine had said, ‘I’m sorry I need you to stop and spend more time with me and live a normal life.’ If she had said that to me I would have said, trust me, I would have said, ‘I’m sorry just going to have to go on without you.’ I declared myself on the first date.

“I love Ernestine more than I can express to you. I love having her in my life, but only if she doesn’t threaten what I live for,” he concluded.

Back in January, Bayless made similar comments that he puts his career over his wife. He explained then, “I chose in my 20s as I was coming up in this business to not have children. I married not my high school sweetheart, but my junior high sweetheart. And one reason we didn’t make it was I knew she wanted kids. And I knew the deeper I got into my career I just couldn’t have kids. I am obsessed to this moment with what I’m doing right here, right now with you.”

“I live for this. It’s my whole life. It’s my calling. It’s not a job. It’s my passion. It’s what I was born to do, and what I want to continue to do as long as my personal situation will allow it,” he stated.

After detailing he got into another relationship with a woman who wanted children, Bayless said, “I said, ‘I can’t.’ I tried to get there and I couldn’t get there. I just knew I was going to have to move to move up. That’s how this business works. And I just knew that if I continue to work nights and weekends the way I do obsessively that I’d be a horrible father. I’d be as horrible a a father as my father was for other reasons. Now, I wasn’t going to inflict that upon kids. Not fair, not worth it. No, I’m married to this.”

He then went on to tell the same story about his first date with Ernestine, “If this happens to go anywhere, but I’m sorry I’m declaring myself up front you’ll always be number two to my job, which is my life, which is my passion. She was taken aback, but she said, ‘Okay, I got it.’ She’d like to say now that she’s become 1a, but only 1a to my obsession.”

Bayless is clearly living a disordered life as his priorities are completely out of order. Instead of putting his career first, Bayless should be putting God first. In Matthew 22:37-38 Christ instructs, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.”

Next, Bayless should be prioritizing his wife, Ernestine. St. Paul writes in Ephesians 5, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word, that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.”

“So [also] husbands should love their wives as their own bodies,” St. Paul continues. “He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. ‘For this reason a man shall leave [his] father and [his] mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

If one is living such a disordered life that they admit they are a slave to their work and even prioritize their work over God and their marriage, we should not be taking anything they say seriously on any kind of moral judgment as Bayless is ought to do. He should get his own life in order before he decides to lampoon others.

Christ says in Matthew 7: 3-5, “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye.”
