Former NFL player Sergio Brown has been taken into custody by police in connection with the death of his mother on Sept. 16, CNN has reported. 73-year-old Myrtle Brown was found dead near a creek after being reported missing.

Originally, both she and Sergio had been reported missing, with her body being found just several hours later. Officials on the scene weren’t sure (at first) if the son was a victim or a suspect in the matter. Myrtle’s death was eventually ruled a homicide after investigators discovered that she had sustained multiple injuries in an assault. From there, police then sought the ex-Colts defensive back for questioning.

At the same time, a video surfaced of Sergio Brown in Mexico – partying and seemingly oblivious to his mother’s passing. And even though police had stayed quiet about any potential suspects, the court of public opinion was weighing heavily against Sergio Brown.

In the clip, Brown could be seen partying it up with his fellow beachgoers, dancing, and drinking. He appears to be a man without a care in the world… all while police back in the United States were tying him to a potential murder case.

That is, until this week. CNN is now reporting that Brown has finally been apprehended, citing a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation. There has been no statement released by Brown himself or any indication that he has legal representation at this time. So, details have been murky thus far, with plenty more to come as this strange and sad story develops.

Sergio Brown played six seasons in the NFL. After originally going undrafted, he ended up signing with the New England Patriots in 2010 and retiring following the 2016 season, during which he played for the Bills. His most notable time in the League came as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
